French
Prairie

The Buck estate, located on 370 acres of Oregon's historic French Prairie, sits nestled into rural farmland surroundings. In 2006, the owners took on the task of converting an underused space off the back of the house into a welcoming environment, purpose-built to entertain, host formal events and relax friends and family.

Project Date: 2004-05 initial plantings/hardscape; ongoing
Location: St. Paul, Oregon

Initial planning took into account the features surrounding the home—a pond, fields and clusters of evergreen—and detailed how the design would integrate the home with the larger landscape.

Trees, shrubs, perennials, vines, ferns, ground covers and grasses were chosen for their ability to showcase the native prairie and woodland settings through dimension and seasonality.
