Glisan
From three concept designs to one final master plan, we successfully moved through the process of reprogramming this back yard space, relocating the vegetable garden area toward space with more sunshine and opening the corner along the house to become an outdoor kitchen/serving center.
Project Installation: Summer 2021
Location: Portland, Oregon
Custom juniper trellises frame the spaces and bring down the scale of the adjacent house. Furnishings take center stage and plantings accent the perimeters, creating foils and backdrops, and occasional punctuations to charm the senses.
Overgrown plantings and lawn gave way to a sequence of cleanly defined rooms.
Fragrant flowers and vines (Gardenia ‘Frostproof’ and the beautiful existing Trachelospermum jasminoides) fill the air, while grassy and fuzzy textures soften edges and beg for a brush of the hand. Edible gardening space yields fruits and berries and other seasonal crops.
The glow of the fire pit (or the movie screen attached to the trellis!) draws the eyes while the rest of the nighttime world fades away.
